Which is the Best Deal?
Which is the better deal, sell your company and pocket $900K and not pay a commission or pocket $1 million AFTER paying a commission?  Sounds like a no-brainer but, over and over, we see alarm dealers who don’t want to pay a commission, shortchanging themselves by accepting much less than they should when selling their accounts. It’s common to focus on the commission rather than the result but it’s usually “penny wise and pound foolish.”  In almost every deal we see, there eventually turns out to be a “best fit” buyer who is willing to pay a bit more than any other buyer or is willing to offer better terms to the seller. How do you find that best buyer on your own? It’s not likely to be the buyer who called you last week.

That’s why you need the Graybeards. We know the buyers who are the best fit in most deals and, if we don’t know, we’ll find out.  We will present your company to as many as 5000 prospective buyers, in strictest confidence, without identifying who you are.  Typically there can be 20 or more interested buyers from which to choose.  We want to help you get highest possible price for your company when you sell. Getting you the best deal is our only job.

Your Subscriber Contracts

Contract forms should be reviewed and updated periodically and each new revision form should be identified by a form date.  A purchaser will want to review copies of all form revisions. The occasional customer will want to totally rewrite your contract.  Don’t do it.  But if you must, be sure to submit it to your insurance company for approval. But remember, however, that just because one insurance carrier will accept it doesn’t mean that your next carrier will also.  Keep a list of modified contracts for future reference.

Everybody has the occasional customer who absolutely won’t sign a contract. Usually it’s a government agency.  Many insurance carriers will accept a few of these, but know for sure if yours will.

Tip of the Day

Recontract your older customers with your latest form contract on a regular basis.  If you treat it as routine, chances are, your customer will too.

Plan for the Future
Most alarm dealers will eventually sell their companies.  If you’re ready, or if you’ve wondered what the process is like, and how you should go about it when the time comes, give us a call.
