Selling Your Accounts
You get calls all the time from people who want to buy your accounts.  Since everybody wants to buy them, it must be that selling them will be easy. Well, you probably get credit card offers in the mail all the time too, so getting a credit card must be easy also. But how do you know which one is the best deal?  Chances are, if you really investigate, you will learn that the best deal is not one that comes in the mail at all.  It’s one that you need shop around carefully to find. It’s out there somewhere but how do you find it, where do you look? You need someone who knows where it is or how to find it; an expert in credit cards.

Selling your accounts or your company is no different.  When that time comes, you need an experienced expert to help you find the best deal. Most likely it will not be from the most obvious buyer; the one that has been calling you for years. You need the Graybeards. Increase Your RMR

Your Recurring Monthly Revenue represents both your cash flow and the primary value of your company. What can you do to increase your RMR?

A small price increase is often appropriate, especially if you have not increased your rates in several years. If you are really providing the good service that you think you are, your customers will tolerate a small increase. There is no good reason to have the lowest price unless you also have the lowest quality.

Consider adding extra-cost services or tiered price structures. If you are providing extra services, make it part of your agreement and add the charge to your RMR. It will pay off in the long run.

Tip of the Day

Customer contracts are critical and must include the usual assignment, indemnification, and limitations of liability. Don't make the mistake of assuming that you don't need contracts because your customers love you or because you do good work. Accounts without contracts, regardless of how good the customer may be, are nearly worthless in a sale.
